I’m a lifelong resident of the Halifax Regional Municipality. I grew up on the Eastern Shore in Three Fathom Harbour. Dartmouth was a big part of life growing up: it’s where we came to shop, and it’s where my Dad’s business was located (ABL Environmental Consultants). My first summer job was working Downtown for my Dad on Portland Street.
I spent a few years away from HRM pursuing my education. I have a masters degree in urban planning from Dalhousie University and a masters in political science from the University of Calgary. My undergraduate is from King’s College.
My wife and I bought our first home on Tulip Street in 2009 and we’ve been proud Dartmouthians ever since. Together, we’re raising two daughters. Before being elected I worked on a variety of community projects as a volunteer including Tulips on Tulip Street, Jane’s Walk, Switch Dartmouth, the Planning and Design Centre, and the Dartmouth Heritage Museum Society.
Before becoming a councillor, I worked for nine years for the federal government in Public Works as an urban planner. My work for the feds involved a variety of projects throughout Atlantic Canada. I loved my job, but City Hall was a passion.
I was first elected in 2016. Highlights of the last four years include daylighting the Sawmill River, opening the renovated Sportsplex, design changes to several streets to make them safer, improvements to active transportation and transit, bringing participatory budget to District 5, and completing major planning initiatives including the Centre Plan, Green Network Plan, and the Integrated Mobility Plan.
